Chargers athletes receive academic recognition

Seven Camosun Chargers athletes have been honoured by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) for their achievements in the classroom last academic season.

The recipients of the 2020/21 CCAA National Scholar Awards are:

Seth Baker,մDZ:Science – University Transfer

Graham Basi,մDZ:Bachelor of Business Administration

Kyle ButterworthմDZ:Bachelor of Sport and Fitness Leadership

Julia Kretzschmar, մDZ:Bachelor of Business Administration

Eric Lees,ٲ:Bachelor of Sport and Fitness Leadership

Tamiya Ness,ٲ:Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology

Gerry Peng,մDZ:Business - University Transfer

“We are incredibly proud of what these student-athletes accomplished last year,” says Director, Student Affairs, Evan Hichley. “Not having a season last year was disappointing for the athletes, so being recognized for their efforts in the classroom is very rewarding. Congratulations!”

Special recognition to Chargers volleyball student-athletes Butterworth and Kretzschmar, and basketball student-athlete Ness who were honoured for their second consecutive year, and to Camosun volleyball player Basi who earned his third in a row!

The Camosun Chargers Athletics Program currently fields teams in basketball and volleyball. Since joining the CCAA and Pacific West Athletic Association (PACWEST) conferences in 1994, the Chargers have competed in over 100 national and provincial championships with over 50 medal winning finishes.
