Chargers set for PACWEST volleyball championships

The Camosun Chargers volleyball teams are set to play in the 2024 Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) Volleyball Championships, Feb. 21 and 22, 2025 at Vancouver Island University (VIU) in Nanaimo, B.C.

The women open the tournament against the Capilano Blues at 1:00pm today, Feb. 21, and the men take on the number one (1) ranked team, the College of the Rockies (COTR) Avalanche, at 3:00pm. Winners of each match advance to the championship game, while the runners-up will play for bronze.

The women finished the season in third place with a 10-10 record, while the men settled for fourth place (10-10).

The winner of the women’s bracket will represent PACWEST at the CCAA National Championship, while on the men’s side, the top two (2) teams will advance (wildcard).

Earlier this week, the PACWEST announced the all stars and award winners. From Camosun, Erica Bolink (Victoria, B.C./Pacific Christian) was named to First Team All Star, Kris La Guardia (Vancouver, B.C./Vancouver College) was named First Team All Star and Top Libero, Gabe Spinelli (Juiz de Fora, BR/Colegio Nossa Senhora de Carmo) was honoured on the All Rookie Team, and Lachlan Scherger (Mildura, AU/Mildura Senior College) was named Second Team All Star.

The Camosun Chargers Athletics Program currently fields teams in basketball and volleyball. Since joining the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) and PACWEST conferences in 1994, the Chargers have competed in over 100 national and provincial championships with over 50 medal winning finishes.
