Programs and Courses with Indigenous Content

Camosun offers programs designed especially for Indigenous learners plus a wide variety of courses with Indigenous content.

Programs

For a limited time each year, 91AV offers priority seating for qualified Indigenous students in all Health and Human Services programs. This includes Allied Health and Technologies; Continuing Care; Community, Family & Child Studies; Dental and Nursing programs.  Learn more about Priority seats for Health Programs.

Academic Upgrading, Certificate

Offers English, math and basic computer studies which include Indigenous components designed to meet the needs of Indigenous students.

Archaeological Field Assistant, Certificate

Four weekends and three evenings

Covers the knowledge and hands-on skills you need to work in an archaeological dig site. If you are a First Nations community member interested in participating in cultural resource management within a traditional territory, you'll find this intensive program useful. Offered in May. Includes weekend field experience.

Health Care Assistant – Indigenous,پھٱ

7 months

Prepares you to provide care to families and individuals in First Nations and Indigenous communities. You'll be qualified to work as part of a health care team in any level of continuing care. This program is offered every few years.

Indigenous Community Wellness, Certificate

10 months

Prepare to support concepts of Indigenous wellness within agencies and community organizations that serve Indigenous peoples. Delivered at the , part of the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board located on the Tsartlip First Nation.

Indigenous Peoples in Trades Training, Certificate

12 weeks

There are two different trade avenues through our Indigenous Peoples in Trades Training office:

  • Trades Skills Foundation for Indigenous peoples program, and/or
  • Direct entry into one of Camosun’s skilled Trades Foundation programs

Indigenous Studies, Diploma

2-2.5 years

Helps you develop the knowledge, skills, awareness and values needed to work with indigenous individuals and families in schools and communities.

Indigenous College Prep - courses only

Take alternative upgrading courses in English, math, biology, chemistry and physics offered in partnership with the School of Arts and Science

Indigenous College Prep, Certificate

8 months

Held in local First Nations communities, this certificate prepares Indigenous students for entrance into college-level courses and programs.

  • Take courses including Intermediate math (Grade 10)
  • UCEP (University College Entrance Preparation) fundable by bands

Courses with Indigenous Content

The following courses are available to all Camosun students. In some programs, a percentage of seats may be reserved for program participants. These courses are indicated with an * after the course title.

To be assured of transferability, consult with an Academic Advisor before registering in any university transfer course. To find where a course transfers, check the .

While all courses may not be indigenized, you can bring an Indigenous perspective to the course through assignments for courses like ART 150 or GEOG 102, for example. Independent Studies courses allow for that flexibility too.
